Day 2 - Pouring the Footings
The frost footings were poured by our concrete contractor, Ron Leech &
Sons. They are a hard working group of
guys! Harry was supervising & even
got to help vibrate the air bubbles out of the concrete (Sorry no pic of Harry in action).

Day 4
Footings are cured & ready for the foundation.
Day 8 - Oops!
Due to a measuring error, Ron had to pour an extension onto the footings to ensure the foundation would sit square. I used this as my oportunity to get even with Ron. Earlier in the project, he gave me grief about not
having the building inspector show up on time to sign off on the footings. Now it was my turn give Ron a hard time about
his measuring skills! In the end, we now have extra beefy footings for our foundation.

Days 6 thru 18 - Pouring the Foundation
We chose insulated concrete forms or ICF for our foundation. ICF makes an extremely well insulated basement. Warm basement = Happy family in January! Some people actually build their entire houses out of ICF. Very energy efficient that way, but I wouldn’t like to attempt a remodel!!! the ICF portion of the foundation was subcontracted out to Lake Mary Concrete out of Alexandria. Frank & his crew did an excellent job. According to the SIP panel installer (more on that later), the foundation could not have been more straight & level.

Harry has officially conquered another mountain! |
